XJ40.com meeting in Beaulieu (New Forest, September 2014) English text

The trip

We left from home rather early at 5 AM (UK time). I booked a personal record on the Double Six fuel economy, at least from home via the motorways to Duinkerken (Dunkerque, Dunkirk): 12.3 litre/100 km. Nice fog and sun in Duinkerken.

To our delight, Pim and Cassandra and Leo and Anne-Marie turned out to be on the same vessel. As soon as we hit the road in Dover, we taped the headlamps to prevent glare and planned the tour – Pim proposed to drive along the coast to Beachy Head. It was a nice way to view many small English villages, but also roundabouts, roundabouts and roundabouts (sometimes so small that you couldn't get it in a full turn with an XJ40) and buses stopping in front of you. So at the A20 near Dover we drove in convoy, but very soon afterwards we lost each other.

It took ages, but it paid out. Beachy Head is a great place. The white cliffs in the sun are fantastic.

Preparing for the rest of the trip, as we couldn't get at the B&B at the agreed time.
